A new heating system is a big purchase, so you’ll get clear options and upfront pricing before you decide.
When a furnace is past repair, or keeps needing one every winter, replacing it can be the more sensible choice. Guardian Plumbers, Heating, Air & Electrical will help you choose between a new gas furnace and a heat pump. We’ll recommend what your home actually needs, and you’ll see the other options too.
Before we recommend a new furnace, we’ll ask how yours has been running and take a close look at it. If a repair makes more sense, we’ll say so, and furnace repair may be all you need.

Both heat pumps and gas furnaces can work well in Southern California’s climate. The right choice depends on your house, the ductwork, the condition of your air conditioning, and your utility options for gas and electricity.
Gas furnaces come in standard and high-efficiency models. A furnace’s efficiency rating, called AFUE, tells you how much of its fuel becomes heat for your home, and the high-efficiency ones waste less of it. Choosing a high-efficiency model can change what the installation involves, and if it does for your home, that’s part of the quote.
A heat pump heats and cools with one system, moving heat instead of burning gas. Our mild winters can work well with heat pumps, though some homes might need electrical work first.
We can look at both systems and explain the cost of replacing them together or one at a time. Learn more about AC installation.
A furnace that’s too large may turn on and off in short bursts, which can cost you comfort and shorten its life. One that’s too small can run for long stretches without keeping up. We size a new furnace to your house, not just to match the old one.
Before we recommend a size, we look at:
The price of a new furnace depends on the equipment and on your home, including:
There’s no charge for the in-home estimate. To pay over time, you can check your options with GoodLeap, the lender we work with, through a soft credit check.

Yes, and we take care of it. California requires a permit for a furnace replacement, and some jobs also need an outside tester to check the ducts for leaks. Both are part of your quote, and if your ducts need sealing to pass, we’ll price that before any work starts.
A straightforward replacement is often finished in a single day. Switching system types, moving the furnace, or reworking ductwork can add time, and your estimate will include a realistic schedule.
It can, especially if your current furnace is older or struggling, but savings depend on the new system’s efficiency, your ductwork, and how you use it. We’ll explain what to realistically expect from each option.
Often, yes. Many homes with a gas furnace and central air can switch to a heat pump that handles both. We’ll check your electrical service and explain what the switch would involve before you decide.
We disconnect the old furnace and take it out of your home as part of the job, so there’s nothing for you to arrange.
There’s no fixed number, but sizing it right, installing it well, and servicing it every year all help a furnace last. We can set up a yearly heating tune-up after your installation.
